What comes to your mind when you hear the word, “spirituality?” Some may think of a higher state of consciousness, others may think of angels and demons or what is often referred to as the “spirit world.” Maybe some might think simply of prayer. It is becoming more popular for professing Christians who do not go to church to say, “I am a spiritual person.” Have you heard the phrase, “We are not physical beings living a spiritual existence, but spiritual beings living a physical existence?”
The word “spirituality” is actually quite popular today, but it is a word that is hard to wrap our minds around, because there are so many ways of using the word and thinking about the word. People do have a hunger for that which is spiritual, and experts say that hunger is greater now than in past periods. With so many viewpoints on what spirituality is, it can be confusing as to the direction we should go. During our upcoming series on becoming more passionate about our relationship with God, our goal is to clear up the confusion and define what it means to be spiritual from a Christian point of view. With a good understanding, we can more confidently step into what that spiritual reality is for us and our lives.
