    A commitment to spiritual, character, and leadership growth is a key quality that we look for in leadership.  Paul tells Timothy in 2 Tim. 2:2 to look for leaders who are reliable and will be qualified to teach others.  So as a church leader, I believe in not just preaching this idea, but also living it out.

    Thursday, I started my first session of an internet course that the Reformed Church in America has been sponsoring called, “The Leadership Journey.”  There are things I will learn in this course about who I am, and the type of leader I will be, but also how to be a more effective Church leader.  So far, we have covered what our top values are, and what our top talents/strengths are.  Are you interested in what they are?  I am guessing you may not be too surprised.

    My top strengths are that I am Responsible, Focused, Analytical, an Achiever, and a Learner.  Understanding our strengths, just like gifts, helps us contribute more fruitfully in the position we are in.  My top seven values are Influence, Integrity, Love, Persistence, Reliability, Faith, and Family.  Our values tend to help us prioritize our lives and understand what is important to us.  So now that you know what makes me tick, I pray that you find a way to discover your strengths and values to help you be equipped in what God is calling you to do.

    Leadership development involves an adventure in which potential leaders are given increasing steps of responsibilities according to their God-given calling. The following documents show and explain what this adventure looks like at New Hope Community Church.

    Small Group Hosts: Lead and facilitate small groups

    Commissioned Leaders: Are ministry leaders within the local church.

    Consistory: The governing board of the local church

    Elders: Have spiritual oversight over the church.

    Deacons: Steward the resources, caring, and service of the Church.

    Ministers of Word and Sacrament: Serves as apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, or teachers of the congregation to build up and equip the whole church for its ministry in the world.

    Commissioned Pastors: Are commissioned (not ordained) as apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, or teachers of the congregation to build up and equip the whole church for its ministry in the world.

    Church Planters: Start New Churches

    Coaches: A coach is someone who comes alongside a leader or team to help them discern the Holy Spirit’s agenda for their life and ministry and helps them make that agenda a reality. Coaching is specified to:
